Les Voiles de Saint Tropez ..a great way to end the season....It would also be nice to report back to all of you who have so kindly supported our campaign thus far to continue to use our terrace, that all is well. Unfortunately this is not yet the case. We continue to receive letters from the Administration demanding that we sign a very unacceptable contract (in October?!) or vacate the terrace. As we have no intention of abandoning our commercial rights to this terrace, we continue to defend ourselves and will keep you updated as to any developments. Thank you all again for your continued support. We remain optimistic and hope to continue serving the community here for many years to come.

Some great news for all of you that have so kindly put your names to our petition to save La Table du Mareyeur from being evicted from its waterside terrace.

The legal action to evict us was originally brought by our next door neighbour, Immobilier & Services, an estate agent. I am absolutely delighted to say that the Tribunal de Saint Tropez has officialy ruled to reject his case. In essence, the judge ruled that it is not for our neighbour to challenge our right to use the terrace. Whether or not that is the end of the matter remains to be seen, but we couldn't have hoped for a better result in round 1.

In the meantime, however, the Administration of Port Grimaud has also threatened to evict us from the terrace. I know, unbelievable isn't it. The simple fact is that the Administration is elected to represent the residents of Port Grimaud, and we have so far failed to identify a single one that would agree with a decision to evict us from the terrace.

Both of us, and everyone else at Table du Mareyeur thank you very much for your support. Obviously it is now more important than ever that residents of Port Grimaud get behind our campaign, so if you know any, please do let them know about our campaign.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Bonjour!

Well, we've just been through a first round of court proceedings at the Tribunal de Commerce in Saint Tropez. Essentially, this was a hearing to decide whether the other party, who continues to maintain that we are occupying part of the terrace illegally, demand that we take down the awnings and remove all tables & chairs immediately, or pay a daily penalty of 1'000 euros, has a case in the first place. We'll receive the first verdict from the judge there on about 24th May.

Meantime, thank you all again so much for your support. We're nudging on 450 signatures now, which is pretty amazing given that I originally only e-mailed a few friends about it. More to the point, every signature and every comment is an important addition to our case.

The latest news is that Michel Roux has joined the campaign, and allowed us to publicise his support. As you can imagine, we're very touched that he's sticking his neck out on our behalf. A very generous thing from someone of his standing. Anyway, here's his letter (click to enlarge):

Various newspapers and magazines have also been in touch, we'll be posting links to the stories as they appear from a new 'media' page on this website.

Meantime, the battle goes on.

My first post since we started the campaign to save our terrace, and I just want to say a huge, heartfelt thanks to all of you that have signed the petition, and written to the President of Port Grimaud in support of our campaign to retain the right to use our existing waterfront terrace. Caroline and I have been quite gobsmacked by all the generous thoughts expressed on the petition, by your e-mails and letters. If nothing else, they are a huge morale boost for both of us.

For those of you wishing to obtain more information on the situation, please feel free to contact us personally through the website! It is early days yet and due to the legal aspect to the problem, we will avoid naming any names for the time being! Suffice to say that if you are in need of an estate agent, we can tell you who not to deal with!
Many thanks agin for your support!
